BIOGRAPHY
Dr Patricia Andrew, who lives in Edinburgh, is an accredited lecturer for The Arts Society (formerly NADFAS) for which she travels all over the UK. She is also a regular lecturer for the National Galleries of Scotland, and provides their Friends organisation with study days and series of thematic lectures; she now has a large personal following of loyal attendees. Her range covers both formal lecturing and informal talks, aimed at all levels of cultural knowledge, e.g. courses for university undergraduates, conference papers (e.g. Europa Nostra), talks to the Italian Cultural Institute, and other art and local history societies.

Dr Andrew has had a wide-ranging career. After taking two degrees (in English Literature from Nottingham, and History of Art from Edinburgh), she taught in Italy for two years, and then served as curator of museums and galleries in Eastbourne, Chelmsford and Durham (1981-1996), responsible for collections and services of all aspects from art to military history. Subsequently, she was responsible for professional advice and standards development at the Scottish Museums Council (1996-2002). Since then she has been a lecturer, heritage consultant and University teacher, combining this with art-historical research, principally on the topics of the British in Italy c.1700–1850, British art and artists aboard c.1700-1850, art of the first half of the twentieth century, garden history, and war art.

She has contributed to books on Grand Tour themes, published scholarly articles in journals (e.g. the Walpole Society, Burlington Magazine, and Apollo), and has written many reviews and newspaper articles. Her exhibitions include the award-winning 'Durham Cathedral: Artists and Images' which celebrated the 900th anniversary of Durham Cathedral. In 2014 she published to critical acclaim a major book entitled 'A Chasm in Time: Scottish War Art and Artists in the Twentieth Century' which won the 2015 Saltire Scottish History Book of The Year award.

In 2017 she became a Fellow of the University of Edinburgh.
