BIOGRAPHY
Sara Withers is a jewellery maker and teacher. Her jewellery is sold at events and in galleries throughout Britain.

Sara is the author of many books of jewellery projects that have been sold throughout the world. She teaches jewellery making at summer schools and art and craft centres, including West Dean College in Sussex.

In 2015, with her husband Nick as her assistant, she became a jewellery instructor for Voyages of Discovery. Having never cruised before, they headed for Iceland at the time of the eclipse, encountering Force 11 gales, which created challenges for the classes but gave them confidence for future voyages.

Since then they have worked for Swan Hellenic, CMV and Voyages to Antiquity.

The classes are attended by women and men wanting to learn some basic jewellery techniques and to create a personal momento. The aim is that everyone should enjoy themselves, meet other passengers and create something that gives them satisfaction.

Sara's most memorable passengers? A scientist who came to every class and delighted in using her brain creatively; a man who attended three classes and explained politely that he wouldn’t be back as he had made a present for all the female members of his family; and a woman who was registered blind but managed to make a necklace for herself with remarkably little help from either Sara or her daughter.

Sara’s greatest sense of achievement? Seeing passengers wearing the jewellery that they have made – even to the formal occasions.

WORKSHOPS & CLASSES
The choice of classes that I facilitate is, of course, dictated by the number of at sea days.
I can provide the following sessions to around 25-30 participants with all materials and tools provided (material charges to be agree with the cruise line) Passengers will be completing pieces of jewellery in the sessions - ready to wear or give to a loved one. and have learnt jewellery techniques that they can enjoy at home.

Knotting between beads - this is the traditional way to thread beads, often used with pearls.

Design and threading of beads using beading wires - a quick and efficient way to create simple necklaces or remake broken pieces of jewellery.

Contemporary knotting - working with beads and threads in a more modern designs.

Making bracelets - with wire; elastic or threads - excellent presents.

Using jewellery wires to make earrings or simple pendants.

Trying UV resin - in this session passengers can embed tiny souvenir items or papers, fragments of maps etc into the resin to create a personalized pendant or keyring.
