From the Midwest US and the Northwest UK, Rina Tillinger speaks on Anglo-American history with a dash of culture-clash comedy. She is the female Bill Bryson!
Rina wrote a weekly humour column called Yankee Doodles about amusing differences between America and Britain in The Chester Chronicle. She also penned comic articles for Cheshire Life magazine, ordered by the editor to ‘give Cheshire villages the Bill Bryson treatment’. She gives talks to the Women’s Institute, U3A, Rotary Club, Inner Wheel, Probus Club, and other monthly clubs with clever names!
With a personal connection, Rina's most popular talks are about the GIs in Britain, gold rush, wagon trains, interesting tombstones inscriptions, Hollywood actresses, gangsters, slavery to freedom,etc. Her father was a GI, worked in a gold mine and was approached by a gangster!
Rina relates all her talks to every port and country. She has lived in six countries, including Japan and China as well as Holland and Germany, and offers full talks for all six. After speaking, she loves listening to passengers especially close encounters of the Anglo-American kind!
Rina feels at home on both sides of the Atlantic. She has learned to drink tea with milk – and prefer it, wait in an orderly queue – and prefer it, and pack her own groceries – will never get used to it! She has worked and volunteered in several schools and hospitals in Cheshire and Shropshire.
With four grown English children, Rina creates magical fabric earrings, cards and pictures for her Etsy shop, Fabricgasmic.
An accomplished papercutter, Rina cut out the logo for Chester Zoo. Princess Diana's butler and Sadlers Wells have sold her cards and pictures. Happiness is a sharp pair of scissors!
