BIOGRAPHY
At age 15 Rick skipped school to watch Concorde take-off from Heathrow on its first ever passenger flight to Bahrain, and his journey began.
After leaving school in London aged 18 with minimal A-level grades he began work to pay for his flying training.

By age 19 Rick became the Deputy Chief Flying Instructor for the Metropolitan Police at Biggin Hill, UK.

He self-studied for the Airline Transport Pilots License theory exams and in 1985 completed the required flying tests at Oxford Air Training School, all self-financed.

At age 24 Rick joined AirUK as First Officer based at Norwich flying the 44 seat Fokker F27 to Amsterdam, Scotland and the Channel Isles.

Within a year he joined British Caledonian Airways at Gatwick on the BAC 1-11 jet flying all round Europe and to North Africa. He flew for 18 months until, after 10 years of frozen recruitment, BA needed pilots again.

Rick happily joined BA in Oct 1987 only to find within months BA had taken over BCal and he would have joined anyway on higher seniority…but that’s another story!

He began flying the Boeing 757 to most major European cities and soon the Boeing 767 long-haul. In Nov 1996 Rick was thrilled to hear his bid to fly Concorde had been successful and he flew supersonic until the Air France crash and subsequent grounding of the fleet in 2000. Rick was then promoted to Captain on the Boeing 757/767 which he continued to fly both short and long-haul until medically retired early in 2010.
