Astronomy journalist and educator Dan Benedict's interest in astronomy began at an early age and he is an avid practitioner of naked-eye astronomy, observing those celestial objects and phenomena that can be easily seen by the casual stargazer with the unaided eye. Selected as a participating journalist for a 1998 total solar eclipse cruise, Dan developed a particular interest in astronomy in the unique environment found aboard cruise ships, which he has been sharing with passengers ever since. An avid member of the Travelers' Century Club, he has sailed to more than 150 countries.

Dr Norman Berdichevsky is a Freelance lecturer, teacher, translator, writer, researcher, editor, cruise enrichment speaker, interpreter, tutor, and community events manager with sophisticated communications skills; He has forty-five years’ experience teaching at university, college, and junior college levels in the United States, Denmark, Spain and Israel – 6 published books, more than 300 articles in a variety of American, British, Danish, Spanish and Israeli journals; fluent in Hebrew, Danish, Spanish and Esperanto and has conducted many cruise enrichment lectures.

Dr Armida Bordi, a former professor of literature and the history of civilisations, lives in Genoa, Italy. After gaining 2 degrees from Genoa University she was the recipient of several British Council grants to British universities and a three time Fulbright scholar to the US. She is now teaching lifelong learning programs offering adult learners courses combining history and art with foreign languages. As a long-time lecturer for many cruise lines, Armida has travelled extensively in different continents. She likes exploring new places and she can communicate in Italian, English, Spanish, French, Greek and Portuguese.

Karin Bucannan

Karin is a Guest Speaker and free-lance artist specialising in embroidery and ceramic sculpture. She taught Art, Fashion & Textiles up to A‘level for 30 years. Howard has been involved in the world of historic aircraft for 25 years. He started off as part of the Messerschmitt Display Team operating the Messerschmitt for nine years. An avid outdoor adventurer, Rick Deutsch has explored the seven continents from Antarctica to Egypt. His talks present the geology, history, and culture of prominent “bucket list” places. He covers popular destinations, such as Venice, Barcelona and Galapagos, but also gives presentations on unusual but fascinating topics to round out his offerings. Rarely touched by other special interest speakers are his lectures on UFO’s, The Space Age, and the History of the World. As member of the National Speakers Association, he regularly gives presentations to organizations, museums, associations, and companies.

Simon Dunbavand held scholarships at the universities of Cambridge and Sheffield, and is active as a musician in fields as diverse as performance, composition, ethnomusicology, and research. He is a keen traveller and explorer, having visited 96 countries already, and has travelled extensively across Latin America, Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Simon lectures on music, as well as rehearsing and conducting passenger choirs at sea. Now he brings his experience and expertise to destination presentations in the hope that some of this wanderlust may rub off.

Although Evelyn was born in Shanghai, she was brought up in Hong Kong and educated in Ireland. The daughter of "Old-China Hands", she was Chinese bi-lingual from the cradle and this was to open doors throughout her professional life which was based in South East Asia. Despite reading History at Trinity College Dublin, Evelyn went on to train as an Advertising Copywriter and later Creative Director with Ogilvy & Mather. She presents an extensive series of talks on Far East history and culture and Australia.

Simultaneously, Aldon's love of all things aviation and related buildings led to him becoming one of the leading experts in RAF history.

Richard qualified in medicine at the University of Leeds. After the usual "doctor" experiences he decided to see a little of the World and spent time working in the developing world, spending three years on St Helena Island, in the South Atlantic, where Napoleon spent his last years in exile. He finally retired from the post of Medical Officer of Health for Jersey and has been serving as a Port and Destination Lecturer since 2007.

James was born in Inverness, Scotland and fulfilled a childhood dream when he first set foot in the South Pacific in 1996. He went on to read Modern languages at Cambridge University, writing his finals dissertation about the linguistic situation on Easter Island, and later specialising in Polynesian languages. He came back to live on Easter Island after completing university, and has been leading archaeological tours of the island for over 15 years. James has been the British Honorary Consul on Easter Island since 2009, and living in Polynesia has given him a unique insight into these exotic islands.

Fifty years of travel has taken Martyn to over 130 countries. As a retired member of the International Press Association he has been giving enhancement lectures on cruise ships for 17 years. These can be a Destination Lecture, or, more popularly, a mix of History, Arts, Science and Cuisine. These are highly visual experiences with between 120-150 photographs of the country & city being visited. Martyn has lectured on all seven continents, on over 50 cruise ships, some over a dozen times, always carrying several general topic lectures for those long multiple sea-days.

Stuart Gustafson took early retirement from his high-technology career so that he could spend more time with his family. Also, as a diver and underwater photographer, other lectures include regional marine life, ancient shipwrecks, and famous ocean explorers. He has published more than 100 research papers and books. His research and exploration has taken him to 98 countries around the world.

Since early childhood in Norfolk, Peter has been an avid explorer. He joined British Rail, and over the next 25 years visited every rail linked point in Europe as well as a range of the, then less accessible, parts of Eastern Europe and Asia. Since retirement, Peter decided to use his ‘gift of the gab’, as a destination and port lecturer to help cruise passengers get the very best out of their ports of call. Over the years he has collected thousands of pictures, anecdotes and helpful hints on all the regularly visited ports.

Jackie was born and educated in Poole Dorset. Whilst serving in the West Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary she met and later married Graham Hoyle, who was at that time in the Lancashire Constabulary. She is a freelance first aid at work tutor, working for large retail chains and fast food restaurants as well as in the care sector. Her husband Graham, is also an enrichment speaker, a Murder Mystery Events Organiser on various cruise ships. This has meant that Jackie has travelled extensively over the last 2 years on numerous cruises, and has enjoyed being a Tour Escort on ships excursions many times.

Dr. Sherry has been honored for heritage preservation and protection through teaching in law, museum and public lands management, co-authoring texts, as editor of the Yearbook of Cultural Property Law and publishing journal articles, prior to Cruise through History storybooks. She was a judge, attorney, museum trustee and head of the U.S. program for cultural heritage repatriation in the Department of the Interior. Huw Jenkins

Huw Jenkins graduated in law before joining a computer company and spent 25 years working in the IT industry living in Malawi, Russia, Croatia, Czech Republic and UK. He is an experienced and enthusiastic presenter able to construct and tell a story in an engaging manner. Johanne Leahy

During a successful broadcasting career with Ulster TV, Johanne has cruised extensively and collected many interesting pieces of jewellery. She offers talks on famous jewellery collections like that of Elizabeth Taylor and the Duchess of Windsor. She has an extensive knowledge of all the Mediterranean ports with a love of ancient history bringing these places to life. Her travels include the Caribbean, Mexico and Costa Rica. Visiting family in Dubai she has watched it’s mesmeric development and that of other Arabian Gulf destinations. However she regards Hawaii as her spiritual home, talking with passion about the essence of Aloha.

Martin P. Lee

Martin P. Lee graduated with first class honours in geography and geology from King's College London in 1975 followed by a masters degree in geography from Keele University. After service as a fellow at Lancaster University, he became a lecturer at Leicester University, and then a senior lecturer at the Royal Military College of Science. Upon early retirement in 2006, Martin has been a Gentleman Dance Host and Port Lecturer. He now spends half the year at sea and half the year at his home in Bournemouth.

Christopher acknowledges that he has been very fortunate in having had opportunities to travel as he enjoys photography and researching and in particularly he loves to share his experiences with others. Before starting her career in tourism, Wendy was a lawyer specialising in IT law, and was also the IT Director for a City of London law firm. She has lived in New Zealand since 1994. An avid cruiser (including Antarctica and the Arctic), Wendy’s favourite cruise itinerary is New Zealand. Wendy loves to share her passion for New Zealand with her fellow cruise passengers.

Patrick took his degrees in Sociology and Psychology at the University of Massachusetts (Dartmouth), emphasizing research, analysis and the development of personality. As a lecturer, he specializes on the peoples of the pre-Columbian Caribbean and Mesoamerican civilizations. On the post-Columbian side, Patrick’s list of subjects include: The Bermuda Triangle; Ancient Atlantis; and 3,000 years of pirates!

Dan Ostler graduated in Biophysics from the University of Waterloo and pursued a career in medical radiation physics. Now in retirement Dan is a perennial shipboard favorite, presenting entertaining informative lectures on cruises all over the world. David Ottley

David is a retired police officer who served in both the Metropolitan Police and with Cambridgeshire Constabulary. During his C.I.D service he served on the Regional Crime Squad, Robbery Squad and the Major Incident Pool in central London. In 1990 he transferred to Cambridgeshire and when John Major became Prime Minister David was employed on his personal protection team. After retiring from the service he studied Global Warming and Ecosystems with Reading University and then Oceanography and Marine Archaeology at Southampton University. Peter is a Research Associate of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, and a former Associate of The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA). He has published books on modern ship design and port architecture, and also on literature, fine art and photography. He has a Joint Honours Degree in English and Philosophy, and a PhD in Photography and the Visual Arts. Peter has a longstanding interest in ships and before retiring in 2002, was Senior Lecturer and Director of the Centre for American & Post-Colonial Arts at Exeter University.

Ernest Rea was born in Northern Ireland and gained degrees in History, Politics and Theology. In 1976 he embarked on a career in Religious Broadcasting working for BBC Northern Ireland and BBC1 Television eventually becoming responsible for all the BBC's religious output across radio and tv. He has expertise in all religions, in the history of the ancient world, in the modern history of Britain and Europe, and in contemporary political issues that affect religion and ethics, .

Rolf Richardson

Rolf started travelling at a tender age, shuttling across the North Sea between England and his mother’s country, Norway. The war put a temporary stop to this, but travel resumed with National Service in the RAF and then with BOAC for 25 years in which he flew to all the inhabited continents, finishing up on 747's. Rolf has acquired a vast collection of photos from over 110 countries which complement his destination lectures and his enrichment lectures on Norway.

William Rickett

Bill Rickett is a retired judge, former law professor and criminal trial attorney. Forensic evidence was always an important component of his practice, teaching and judicial duties. Hundreds of his former students practice throughout the country as prosecutors and defense attrorneys. Rickett earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The Ohio State University and his Juris Doctor cum laude from The University of Akron. He retired from the bench in 2012. That same year, he was appointed to but declined a seat on the Supreme Court of the Republic of Palau.

Bill Simpson served in the Royal Air Force for 25 years. Responsible for air transport operations in Northern Ireland, he was awarded an MBE in 1979. He then commanded two RAF Stations, receiving an OBE from Queen Elizabeth in 1988. Bill's acclaimed biography ‘The Prince’ was published by HarperCollins in 2006 and he now writes historical novels. Peter has primarily a technical and military background. Early in his career he joined the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm as a helicopter pilot. Following basic flying training, he was forced by a detached retina to transfer to the Air Traffic Control branch and served both at Royal Naval air stations and Royal Air Force area radar units. After leaving the RN, he moved with his wife Sally to the Principality of Andorra, in the eastern Pyrenees. Since 2003 he has worked as a full-time author. He’s also a very experienced destination and enrichment speaker for many of the cruise lines.

Allan Thomas

Allan joined the Royal Air Force in 1960 eventually becoming an Air Electronics Officer and aircraft captain serving on Maritime Patrol aircraft keeping an eye on the Soviet Navy, especially its submarine force. In 1993 Allan was seconded to the United States Navy where he qualified as a military oceanographer prior to taking command of operations at a joint US-UK Undersea Surveillance Facility. In his talks he describes undersea geology, historical oceanographic events, and marine animals: focussing on the waters that each cruise passes though accompanied by some amusing anecdotes from his Service days. He is also a qualified and accomplished Destination Presenter.

Graham was born in London and joined the London Nautical School at the age of 13, before joining the British & Commonwealth Shipping Company at the age of 16 as a Navigating officer cadet. Professor Kathleen Wulf has lectured on board cruise ships since 2009 in the Mediterranean, Baltic, Black, North, and Caribbean Seas. Her presentations focus on the culture and history of the countries and ports visited, along with relevant present-day political, social, and economic information. On longer ocean voyages, she conducts a series of lectures titled Voyages of Discovery on seafaring explorers of the world. For the past six years, she has lectured more than 100 days per year, receiving ratings of outstanding from guests.
