Astronomy journalist and educator Dan Benedict's interest in astronomy began at an early age and is an avid practitioner of naked-eye astronomy, observing those celestial objects and phenomena that can be easily seen by the casual stargazer with the unaided eye. Selected as a participating journalist for a 1998 total solar eclipse cruise, Dan developed a particular interest in astronomy in the unique environment found aboard cruise ships, which he has been sharing with passengers ever since.

Dr Armida Bordi, a former professor of literature and the history of civilisations, lives in Genoa, Italy. After gaining 2 degrees from Genoa University she was the recipient of several British Council grants to British universities and a three time Fulbright scholar to the US. She is now teaching lifelong learning programs offering adult learners courses combining history and art with foreign languages. As a long-time lecturer for many cruise lines, Armida has travelled extensively in different continents. She likes exploring new places and she can communicate in Italian, English, Spanish, French, Greek and Portuguese.

Dr Benton Cade is an English filmmaker originally from Reading, England. He has lived in China for over a decade, first in Anhui province and then in Beijing. In 2011, he wrote and directed the award-winning documentary Sky Ghosts. His second documentary, Red Son, continued the religious theme by focusing on the history and development of Catholicism in China. Since September 2015, Cade has been Professor of Film Studies at Tsinghua, China's top university. Benton has lectured on Chinese and Japanese subjects on cruise ships in the region.

Widely travelled, he has visited all major continents with the exception of Antarctica, and is particularly familiar with Scandinavia, the Baltic, UK/Ireland, the Far East and the Mediterranean/Atlantic Islands. An accomplished and experienced presenter, he delivers well constructed, professional 'Powerpoint' presentations embelished with his own photographs.

Jim is a retired USA Diplomat who lived in 13 countries and has given Destination/Maritime History Lectures on more than 100 cruises in Europe, Asia, S. America. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy (BSc) and University of Chicago (MBA). He was a US Navy Submarine Officer, VP International for Fortune 500 companies. He was a University Professor for History, Geography, Logistics, and International Marketing. Having lived and worked in Panama and transited the Panama Canal 24 times and Suez Canal 4 times, Jim can give the ship's bridge commentary about the history of the Canals. He speaks Spanish.

Howard Cook

Howard has been involved in the world of historic aircraft for 25 years. He started off as part of the Messerschmitt Display Team operating the Messerschmitt for nine years. He has flown a wide range of vintage aircraft from Tiger Moth, Stearman, Harvard Spitfire MkV, Hurricane, P51 Mustang and P40 Kittyhawk. Howard writes for a number of aviation magazines and has known many of the great fighter aces and test pilots which provides inspiration for his series of talks.

Simon Dunbavand held scholarships at the universities of Cambridge and Sheffield, and is active as a musician in fields as diverse as performance, composition, ethnomusicology, and research. He is a keen traveller and explorer, having visited 96 countries already, and has travelled extensively across Latin America, Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Simon lectures on music, as well as rehearsing and conducting passenger choirs at sea. Now he brings his experience and expertise to destination presentations in the hope that some of this wanderlust may rub off.

Aldon was brought up in the North West of England developing a strong interest in aviation. After a period in the RAF he graduated as a Chartered Surveyor. He specialised in commercial property in London and then set up the first property company in post-Communist Russia. Simultaneously, Aldon's love of all things aviation and related buildings led to him becoming one of the leading experts in RAF history.

Richard qualified in medicine at the University of Leeds. After the usual "doctor" experiences he decided to see a little of the World and spent time working in the developing world, spending three years on St Helena Island, in the South Atlantic, where Napoleon spent his last years in exile. He finally retired from the post of Medical Officer of Health for Jersey and has been serving as a Port and Destination Lecturer since 2007.

James was born in Inverness, Scotland and fulfilled a childhood dream when he first set foot in the South Pacific in 1996. He went on to read Modern languages at Cambridge University, writing his finals dissertation about the linguistic situation on Easter Island, and later specialising in Polynesian languages. He came back to live on Easter Island after completing university, and has been leading archaeological tours of the island for over 15 years. James has been the British Honorary Consul on Easter Island since 2009, and living in Polynesia has given him a unique insight into these exotic islands.

He has given Destination Lectures in countries on all six continents, seven if you include Antarctica. Jack is Professor Emeritus of Western Washington University and former Chair of the Department of Environmental Sciences. His many research projects have examined marine life from polar seas to tropical coral reefs. He is author of several books and over one hundred other publications dealing with coral reefs, marine pollution, and climate change. Since 2004 Jack has lectured on 55 different topics on more than 50 cruises. As a diver and underwater photographer, his richly-illustrated special interest lectures draw on first-hand encounters with the underwater world. Other lectures focus on the history and culture of many popular cruise ship destinations.

Jackie was born and educated in Poole Dorset. Whilst serving in the West Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary she met and later married Graham Hoyle, who was at that time in the Lancashire Constabulary. She is a freelance first aid at work tutor, working for large retail chains and fast food restaurants as well as in the care sector. Her husband Graham, is also an enrichment speaker, a Murder Mystery Events Organiser on various cruise ships. This has meant that Jackie has travelled extensively over the last 2 years on numerous cruises, and has enjoyed being a Tour Escort on ships excursions many times.

Martin P. Lee graduated with first class honours in geography and geology from King's College London in 1975 followed by a masters degree in geography from Keele University. Upon early retirement in 2006, Martin has been a Gentleman Dance Host and Port Lecturer. He now spends half the year at sea and half the year at his home in Bournemouth.

Joseph V. Micallef is a historian, best selling author, keynote speaker and commentator on military and international affairs. He has produced, directed or written dozens of documentary programs on military history and world politics as well as written a number of books. He has an M.Sc. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and was a Fulbright Fellow at the Italian Institute of International Affairs. Jacqua Miller is a former Senior Center and Recreation Center Director. She is a veteran cruiser, having organized and led many large groups on cruise. Howard Nichols

Howard was a Paramedic Instructor in the NHS Ambulance Service until 1989 when he was recruited by the RNLI to start up a new training course in Advanced Life Support and Care of the Survivor. He retired in 2004, but continues as a volunteer presenter for the RNLI Fund Raising Department. Having visited over 100 countries as a transport photographer he has a portfolio of nearly 90,000 images of destinations which enables him to give Port/Destination Lectures “bespoke” for each individual cruise.

David is a retired police officer who served in both the Metropolitan Police and with Cambridgeshire Constabulary. During his C.I.D service he served on the Regional Crime Squad, Robbery Squad and the Major Incident Pool in central London. In 1990 he transferred to Cambridgeshire and when John Major became Prime Minister David was employed on his personal protection team. After retiring from the service he studied Global Warming and Ecosystems with Reading University and then Oceanography and Marine Archaeology at Southampton University. David is both a destination speaker and enrichment speaker presenting a series of talks on his life in the police and oceanography.

Graeme studied Transport at London University and travelled the world, working for Gulf Air in the late 1970s. From 1980 until 2001 he trained travel agents and travel managers in corporations for Reed International’s travel publishing division. Since 2001 he has specialised in luxury travel and cruising, lecturing at Ryerson University in Toronto and Liverpool John Moores University. A seasoned cruise passenger, Graeme has an intimate knowledge of a multitude of cruise destinations.

Peter is a Research Associate of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, and a former Associate of The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA). He has published books on modern ship design and port architecture, and also on literature, fine art and photography. He has a Joint Honours Degree in English and Philosophy, and a PhD in Photography and the Visual Arts. Peter has a longstanding interest in ships and before retiring in 2002, was Senior Lecturer and Director of the Centre for American & Post-Colonial Arts at Exeter University.

He has expertise in all religions, in the history of the ancient world, in the modern history of Britain and Europe, and in contemporary political issues that affect religion and ethics, .

Doreen Ritchie

Doreen has been a keen traveller all her adult life and her passion for cruising has taken her to many parts of the world; and in 2005, as an experienced crafter, she started teaching craft on cruise ships. Bill Simpson served in the Royal Air Force for 25 years. Responsible for air transport operations In Northern Ireland, he was awarded an MBE in 1979. He then commanded 2 RAF Stations, and received an OBE in 1988. Bill's acclaimed biography ‘The Prince: The Secret Story of the World’s Most Intriguing Royal' was published in 2006. As an enrichment speaker, Bill's employs his wide-ranging knowledge of military & aviation history whereas as a port speaker, he combines history and culture in his vividly illustrated port talks.

Peter Stuart Smith

Peter has primarily a technical and military background. Early in his career he joined the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm as a helicopter pilot. Following basic flying training, he was forced by a detached retina to transfer to the Air Traffic Control branch and served both at Royal Naval air stations and Royal Air Force area radar units. After leaving the RN, he moved with his wife Sally to the Principality of Andorra, in the eastern Pyrenees. Since 2003 he has worked as a full-time author. He’s also a very experienced destination and enrichment speaker for many of the cruise lines.

Although she enjoyed both arts and sciences at school she took up a successful career in accountancy working in and being promoted through a number of organisations. It is this love of travelling, combined with a thirst for knowledge and learning that has taken her along the road to becoming a Destination Lecturer. She gets a real 'buzz' from helping holiday makers, make the most of their own adventure.

He was born in Australia and has dual Canadian / Australian citizenship. He has been featured as an enrichment and destination lecturer on cruise ships throughout the world. Close encounters with snorting grizzly bears, erupting volcanoes, drooling Komodo dragons, and trumpeting elephants have all added spice to George's presentations.

Tim Stevens is a recently retired senior Church of England bishop, who served as lead bishop in the UK House of Lords. He has lectured in Europe, Africa, Caribbean, South America and The Arctic on the cultural, historical, religious and political background in 23 countries. Tim was for 16 years Bishop of Leicester, the UK’s most multi-religious city. Tim travels extensively as a cruise lecturer and as Prelate of the International Order of St John, with responsibility for chaplains in 40 countries world wide.

Olga Eggert was born in the Crimea, now Russia. She attended the Crimean Musical College, and then the Conservatoire in Odessa and graduated with top marks in piano, piano accompaniment and the teaching of music. After leaving the Conservatoire she embarked on a career as a professional pianist and accompanist and has performed in various venues around the world. Olga talks on all aspects of classical music, on European history and European art. She illustrates her talks with extensive PowerPoint presentations and often includes extracts from literature, poetry and piano pieces, playing herself, to emphasize the atmosphere of a period.

Malcolm Teasdale was born in Coventry, England and is a successful entrepreneur who now spends his time traveling to “off-the-beaten-track” places. Since retiring from the technology industry, he now travels to the more unusual destinations in the World in search of rich cultural experiences. His 4th travel book has just been published called, “Religion, Spirituality and the way of life in the Himalayas” which describes his experience in the Himalayan Kingdoms of Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet and Myanmar. Malcolm has a wide repertoire of talks on destinations, adventure and travel.

Daniel was born and reared in the Channel Island of Jersey of French parents. As a young man he attended Imperial College of Science and Technology in London where he studied Botany and continued there as a postgraduate. He then joined the International arm of Barclays and over the next 15 years was involved in the management of offices all aroound the globe. Since retiring, Daniel has lectured for a number of cruise lines as a destination lecturer covering Central and South America (including the Amazon), the Caribbean, the Baltic region, Iberia/Canaries and the Northern Mediterranean.

Allan Thomas

Allan joined the Royal Air Force in 1960 eventually becoming an Air Electronics Officer and aircraft captain serving on Maritime Patrol aircraft keeping an eye on the Soviet Navy, especially its submarine force. In 1993 Allan was seconded to the United States Navy where he qualified as a military oceanographer prior to taking command of operations at a joint US-UK Undersea Surveillance Facility. In his talks he describes undersea geology, historical oceanographic events, and marine animals: focussing on the waters that each cruise passes though accompanied by some amusing anecdotes from his Service days. He is also a qualified and accomplished Destination Presenter.

Alan is a Destination & Port Lecturer, Historian and Geographer and has undertaken extensive research and travel in the U.S.A. and Canada, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Mediterranean World including Egypt, Israel, Turkey and the Black Sea, South Africa, large cities of South-East Asia, Australia and the frozen worlds of Iceland. He has lectured on world voyages for many of the major cruise lines, and offers a comprehensive and interesting range of lectures in History, Geography and Environmental Studies.

He has a passion for golf, wine, gardening and travel and, in addition to his Destination and Port talks, he has developed a wide portfolio of varied, amusing and informative Enrichment talks, which he is happy to offer on sea days.

For over forty-four years David worked in the plastering industry, from apprentice through to college lecturer and international author. In 2010 he was made a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Plasterers, and given the freedom of the City of London. Whilst cruising with various cruise lines over the past 15 years, David has also developed a wealth of knowledge on many of the destinations he visited. His educational and enjoyable destination related and historical talks on subjects such as Castles and Cathedrals are delivered using PowerPoint with short film clips.

Gary spent much of his earlier career in sales eventually reaching senior management level. He then went on to start his own business in 1976 acquiring and managing hotels. For the past 35 years Gary and his family have been regularly cruising. An enthusiastic perfectionist Gary has recently qualified as a Master for the CLIA, and having visted over 120 ports and completed studies on a great many enables him to speak as a destination lecturer with authority and enthusiasm.
